Dial 192.168.0.1 For Your Router

Although 19216801 looks like a safe’s combination, it’s also commonly written as 192.168.0.1. It’s normally used by some network device manufacturers to set as the default IP address for home broadband routers. In order to set up the router, the easiest method is to switch on your computer and router, and connect both of them to your computer’s network. If you don’t have a network, the router can be directly connected to your computer via the provided cables. Once you open a browser, type this string of numbers at the address bar to launch the router’s home page. You can then proceed to configure the settings based on your broadband provider’s specifications.

As in any process to configure settings, a user name and corresponding password is required to authenticate the user. For first time configuration, each manufacturer provides its user name and password to enter its setup. Depending on the need, you may or may not want to change the password as a router setup is not an everyday activity. If you do change the password, remember to write it down for safekeeping and future record purposes.

A year down the line, there’s a need to change your home broadband router’s settings. If you can’t recall the user name and password, nor find that little piece of paper on which you wrote them down, perhaps some intelligent guessing is called for. In the event you’re pretty certain you didn’t change the defaults, there are normally a few combinations of user name and password which should work. Alternatively, there is a published list of manufacturer brand, default IP address, user name and password for the public’s reference. Hopefully this gets you out of your predicament.

If all the above fails, the last resort is to reset your router. There’s normally a button located at the back of the router to achieve this purpose. By pressing it for the recommended amount of time, it resets all the settings including the password. You then can access the router by typing in 19216801 at a browser, with the default user name and password at its login page. Since earlier defined settings are also wiped out, it’s recommended to safely stash away those settings upon earlier configuration. Either write them down or capture a screenshot of the settings.
